"Wht had started as a subversive instrument of change ws neutralized by the system and converted in2 an instrument of consolidation." Papert
I think what bothers me most about some elements of things like #edchat is reflected in my last Papert tweet.
@anderscj think conversion 2 instrmnt of consolidation indicates movemnt toward tipping point
@ekendriss but what happens at that tipping point is critical. If we allow school to put a fence around it, it looses it's potential.
"ask a teacher or fellow student, look in a book, work by analogy with another situation, try to invent a method, resort to trial & error."
"What makes math repugnant.and boring.is not that its 'hard' but that it is a senseless ritual dictated by the agenda of a set curriculum."
"But when Brian & Henry wanted to do something that was deeper, more instructive, & more (cont) http://tl.gd/2l7da4
The story of Brian and Henry reminds me so much of my early experiences with computers.
"when one is deeply engaged in something, 'easy' is not what one wants." Papert
"the isolation of the computer presence (in labs) must be seen as a kind of immune response of School to a foreign body." Papert
"The computer in the classroom was undermining the division of knowledge onto subjects; it was turned into a subject of it's own." Papert
"Piaget was the theorist of learning without a curriculum; School spawned the project of developing a Piaget curriculum." Papert
"in education, change will come by using technical means to shuck off the technical nature of School learning." Papert
@anderscj What are you discussing, please? I find the string interesting.
@mrunkle I'm reading Seymour Papert'S (1993) ”The Children'S Machine”
really enjoying the Papert wisdom coming from you @anderscj - good stuff!
@anderscj Thank you I have Amazoned a copy. I like the late night thing that you are doing also. It is easier to maintain focus.
